| Friday, January 7, 2005 Meeting Topic:Above and Beyond Process Improvement - What makes Good Software?
Abstract Join us in contributing to the Southern CA/LA SPIN survey of "What does it take in the real world to make good software?" We are often contacted by other SPINs to discuss our experience in solving problems that occur during implementing various aspects of software improvement. As a community, we have a considerable amount of experience that we would like to share with other SPINs to develop a consolidated set of best practices to allow pro-active rather than reactive approach to developing good software. Based on the extremely positive response to George Huling's interactive style with the audience at the Dec. 2004 meeting, the SPIN will conduct the next several meetings in a discussion format with moderators to facilitate audience participation. Based on the discussions we will identify and prioritize the characteristics required to create good software. We will have flip charts and note takers so that the discussion can be captured for review. Because this subject covers considerable scope and there is a wide breadth of knowledge to be gleaned from the experience of our SPIN communities, we will be splitting the topic as follows: Jan. 7, 2005 - Getting a Software Project Off on the Right Foot: System and Software Requirements - with Yolanda de Oro and Arnold Goodman as co-facilitators. Feb. 4, 2005 - Tentatively - Software Implementation and Integration We expect very lively discussions. If you liked real world lessons learned from "Tales from the Trenches", you won't want to miss these upcoming sessions! Please join us and contribute your experience to define what works in creating great software in the "real world". SPECIAL LOCATION: Please note revised Location for Jan 7.
