Project Sizing and Estimating - Effectively Using Functional Measurement

Presenter: David Garmus


Abstract

This presentation will discuss the successful implementation of a program, which bases the metrics to be collected on the goals of the process being measured and then utilizes those results in decision making and process improvement. Industry benchmark data will be discussed that support effective project estimation, based upon the presenter's experience at various software organizations that have achieved significant improvements in delivering software. This session is expected to be interactive between the presenter and the attendees.

Your Presenter: David Garmus is a Principal of The David Consulting Group (DCG), an SEI CMMI® Approved Transition Partner and a PSM Transition Organization that supports software development organizations in achieving software excellence with a metric-centered approach. David is an acknowledged authority in the sizing, measurement and estimation of software application development and maintenance. He serves as a Past President of the International Function Point Users Group (IFPUG) and as a member of the IFPUG Counting Practices Committee. He has a BS from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MBA from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. He has spoken at numerous conferences and has written many articles and several books, including:

Directions: Take the 405 Inglewood exit (southbound it's the exit after Rosecrans East, northbound it's the exit just after Hawthorne) and go north on Inglewood Avenue (southbound, turn left at the end of the ramp, northbound, turn right). Turn left at Marine. Go west under the freeway past the railroad tracks and Redondo Beach Avenue to Entrance 2 at Mettler Drive. Turn left into the parking lot .
