Meeting Topic:

Requirements and Design Review Techniques

Presenter: George Huling

Abstract

The talk will give an overview of a few techniques having the following characteristics:

  1. They do not need any notation beyond that used in an ordinary programming language.
  2. They are formal in the sense that they can be processed by software tools.
  3. They can be used by QA and test organizations to search for and generate test cases, and they can be used by anyone with a knowledge of programming.
  4. They are useful at the very beginning of a project (before requirements are signed off) when they serve to prevent defects rather than finding them after the defects are designed and coded into the product.

Your Presenter: George Huling has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University and a M.S. in Mathematics from Stevens Institute of Technology. He started in the space biz at Kearfott (General Precision) Systems Division when systems engineering was largely control systems engineering. He became a scientific programmer at Kearfott, stayed in programming for 15 years, switched over to software systems engineering, and then to software process improvement. He is an Ada enthusiast and an advocate of more rigorous approaches to software eningeering.
