Project’s Tale: Transitioning From SW-CMM to CMMI-SE/SW" Presenter: Warren Scheinin Abstract Adopting a new management model on an existing project is always difficult. Strained project resources, customer indifference to process improvement, and other problems can retard the institutionalization of processes needed to transition to a new model such as the staged CMMI-SE/SW model. However, based on personal experience, following good project management practices and using well known change management tools can overcome all these obstacles. In support of Division-sponsored process improvement activities, the presenter has worked as a process lead on several CMM Level 3 compliant projects which were included in externally led CMMI-SW Level 3 assessments. This presentation is a report from the trenches covering strategies, methods, tools, and lessons learned to help make it a little easier for other projects to successfully accomplish such a transition. It will address the project perspective including the project’s interface to the organization. Meeting Coordinator: Mark Smith, msmith@uces.csulb.edu Your Presenter: Warren Scheinin is a systems engineer at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, where he assists projects in process improvement and maturity audits and assessments. He has over 30 years of experience in software development and management and teaches an in house risk management course. Warren has assisted dozens of projects in attaining ISO-9000:2000, CMM Level 3, and CMMI Level 5 certification at four major aerospace companies.
